A Gripping Ascent in St. Paul
Completed in 1980, the SOM-designed St. Paul Town Square complex in Minnesota includes a large, two-block retail podium, two office buildings, a hotel, underground parking, and a city-owned park. And as a certain raccoon discovered, the facade of the 25-story tower, now home to UBS, makes the perfect surface for an adventurous ascent. Concrete aggregate provides a solid grip for the forepaw, while generous window ledges offer auspicious opportunities for mid-climb rests.
